Purpose

This opportunity, Project SCALES, will provide funding to foster innovation among school food authorities (SFAs) across the United States, with an overall goal of supporting local innovations and collaborations that ensure a resilient, just, equitable, and nutritious school food system. The first round of grants will focus on rural communities.

Goals and objectives include:

  1. Improve the K-12 school food supply chain by incentivizing innovation
  2. Establish and/or strengthen partnerships between various entities of the food system, including schools, food producers, processors, distributors, and other potential partners
  3. Create a sustainable, resilient, equitable, and nutritious school food system
  4. Collect and disseminate lessons learned and share best practices for cross-sector partnerships in the K-12 school food system

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are rural school food authorities (SFAs) or school districts as the primary entity. At least one formalized partnership must be documented at the time of application.
