The Maine Recovery Council is offering funding to support and/or expand culturally relevant, community-led, and youth-led efforts that improve the community conditions in communities in Maine highly impacted by opioid use disorder.
Community conditions can be strengthened in multiple ways, including, but not limited to:
- Changes to economic, social, and physical context, for example stable and safe housing, education and workforce opportunities, and reducing violence are approaches that change the economic, social, and physical context that improve health outcomes and reduce and prevent SUD
- The passing or changing of laws, policies, ordinances, resolutions, mandates, regulations, or rules through government bodies, park districts, healthcare organizations, worksites, and other community institutions
- Changes to processes, power structures, and relationships within an organization or across organizations
- Advocacy, civic engagement, and power building
Priority populations include rural communities, people with disabilities, children/youth, and older adults, among others.
Funding is only available to community coalitions in Maine. Coalitions must choose one organization to serve as the lead applicant operating within the community to accept the funds on the coalitions' behalf.
Lead applicants must be one of the required entity types:
- Nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status
- Local government, governmental organizations
- Hospitals
- Tribal entities that are either state recognized, federally recognized, or have a 501(c)3 status
Award ceiling: $125,000 per year
Project period: Up to 3 years
Estimated number of awards: 5-8
Estimated total program funding:
$1,950,000
