Purpose

The Oregon Behavioral Health Loan Repayment Program provides loan repayment assistance for specific behavioral health providers in exchange for 3 years of service in a rural or underserved community in Oregon.

The program is designed to support rural and underserved communities in the recruitment and retention of high quality behavioral health providers who work in inpatient, outpatient, and community care settings serving patients regardless of their source of coverage.

Eligibility

Licensed provider types:

  • Psychiatric nurse practitioners
  • General, child and adolescent or geriatric psychiatrists
  • Clinical psychologists
  • Licensed clinical social workers
  • Licensed professional counselors
  • Licensed marriage and family therapists

Pre-licensed provider types:

  • Clinical social workers
  • Counseling or clinical psychologists
  • Professional counselors
  • Marriage and family counselors

Associate, bachelor, and/or master's level provider types:

  • Qualified mental health associate
  • Qualified mental health professional
  • Certified alcohol and drug counselor (Levels I and II)

Amount of funding

Full-time service providers: 70% of the qualifying loan balance, up to $50,000 per service year for a minimum of 3 years. Providers with less than $29,000 in qualifying loan debt may receive up to 100% of their loan balance, not to exceed the lesser of their total debt or $20,000.

Part-time service providers: 35% of the qualifying loan balance, up to $25,000 per service year for a minimum of 3 years. Provers with less than $15,000 in qualifying loan debt may receive up to 100% of their loan balance, not to exceed the lesser of their total debt or $10,000.
