Purpose

The Moment of Spark program will offer grants to advance the long-term health and well-being of communities, families, and individuals in Georgia by helping communities leverage their collective power for systems change that reflects the community's visions for a healthy future.

Systems change is defined as addressing the things that hold problems in place such as policies, practices, resources, relationships, connections, power dynamics, and mental models.

Funds may be used for:

  • Salary and benefits of staff working on the project
  • Project-related equipment
  • Other direct expenses
  • Consulting fees
  • Project-related travel costs
  • Indirect expenses

Application scoring criteria:

  • Alignment with the Initiative's vision, mission, and values
  • Timeliness and responsiveness
  • Focus on systems change
  • Building civic capacity
  • Interorganizational collaboration
  • Place-based approach
Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity, a state or local government agency, or a coalition/collaborative using a fiscal sponsor
  • Work in Georgia on behalf of Georgians
  • Align with the mission, vision, and values of Georgia Health Initiative

The applicant's operational budget must be at least two thirds (2/3) of the requested program budget. Organizations that do not meet the threshold must either secure a fiscal sponsor that satisfies the requirement or request a smaller grant amount. Fiscal sponsors must meet the applicant eligibility criteria.

Awardees will also receive assistance through:

  • Structured and flexible coaching and technical support to grantee partners, including training and coaching with strategic communications, understanding lobbying restrictions, and grassroots organizing
  • One in-person site visit to engage grantee partners
  • Ongoing virtual support with the Initiative's community engagement team to provide tailored guidance and timely feedback
  • An in-person convening of grantee partners to share learning, insight, and experience
