The Rural Catalyst Grant program provides reimbursable grants to rural and tribal communities to support economic development and other projects to improve quality of life for North Dakota residents.
Objectives include:
- Strengthen rural communities addressing critical needs in the areas of community and economic development, health and wellness or for the purpose of preserving or reopening rural grocery stores
- Support quality of life improvement such as improving access to healthcare, essential services, education, housing, or transportation within the community
- Encourage partnerships and collaboration between local organizations, businesses, and government entities
- Support innovative approaches to address unique challenges faced by rural areas
- Foster community development and revitalization efforts in rural regions
Eligible applicants are municipalities, counties, tribes, job development authorities, regional councils, or other political subdivisions in North Dakota.
Applicants must be a rural community with a population of 4,500 or fewer.
Up to $500,000 for an 18 month project period. At least 50% of the total funds for this grant must be awarded to rural communities with a population of 1,500 or fewer.
Recipients must provide a dollar for dollar local matching contribution, which can come from public, private, or other nonprofit sources.
