The Emergency Medicine Foundation Pilot Research Grant provides funding for preliminary data to help initiate a successful line of research that will ultimately lead to a larger project. The goal of this grant is to lay the groundwork for a project that will impact emergency care research and is intended for a broad audience, including both clinical, translational, and basic science researchers.
Description of how the proposed pilot could lead to further work is highly encouraged. Feasibility, and high risk/high reward applications are encouraged. EMF encourages application partnerships between research universities and community emergency departments along with the engagement of operational and policy partners. All applications must identify and justify the primary EMF priority to which they are focusing their proposal.
Priorities include:
- Clinical relevance: Research tied to measurable improvements in patient care
- Infrastructure: Research involving workforce, policy, and systems readiness
- Future focused emergency medicine: Research anticipating healthcare delivery changes
- Under-resourced areas: Research focused on rural and urban underserved settings
- Basic science and translational research: How this work will lead to improvements impacting patient care
The principal investigator must have a primary faculty appointment in emergency medicine including pediatric emergency medicine and be able to demonstrate that access to a suitable caseload, patient population, or database will be available for study during the funding period.
Award amount: $100,000
