Best and Brightest - Medical Equipment Procurement in Iowa

This program provides grants to support rural Iowa healthcare facilities in procuring and installing medical equipment. Funds may be used for acquiring medical equipment or devices, installation, and minor alterations and renovations necessary for service delivery.
Applicants may submit proposals for the purchase or installation of single, large-scale, advanced medical technology items, such as
- Robotic surgical systems
- Low-dose CT scans
- Radiotherapy units
- CT/PET scanners
- Cardiac catheterization equipment
The goal of the program is to increase healthcare access, provide enhanced screening, and reduce rural bypass by keeping rural residents in rural communities to receive preventive and diagnostic services, surgeries, and healthcare treatments.
Eligible applicants are public, private, nonprofit, academic, community-based or governmental healthcare facilities that provide in-person healthcare services in a rural area of Iowa.
Eligible facilities must deliver direct healthcare services in the areas of maternal/child health, cancer, cardiovascular health, mental/behavioral health, and chronic disease prevention and management. Facility types include but are not limited to:
- Hospitals
- Clinics
- Federally Qualified Health Centers
- Primary care providers
- Behavioral health centers
Up to $50,000,000 of total funding is available for approximately 25 awards. The project period is 5 years.
