Indigenous Addiction Research Program
The Northwest Native American Research Center for Health offers a summer training that offers foundational knowledge and skills in Indigenous addiction research.
Training topics include:
- Substance misuse prevention, treatment, and recovery
- Models and methods for preventing overdose and harm
- Partnering with Tribal communities
- Cultural adaptation and integration of traditional Tribal healing practices
- Best research practices within American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities
The program will take place June 22-26, 2026 in Portland, Oregon.
Eligible applicants include anyone interested in developing research skills to benefit AI/AN health including:
- Native health professionals
- Undergraduate and graduate students
- Health administrators
- Community health workers
- Researchers
- Program managers
Selected participants will receive:
- Lodging
- Per diem
- Transportation to and from the airport
- Airfare, train, or mileage to Portland, Oregon
- Course tuition, materials, and books
