Purpose

The Water First II Community Action Grant offers funding to support long term change in Native communities through the planning and implementation of policy changes that result in decreasing sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption, increasing access to and consumption of safe drinking water, and/or increasing breastfeeding among families with young children.

Awardees will work with the NB3 Foundation and the Water Roadmap.

Projects will have 2 end-goals:

  • Develop and implement a community-driven project to change beverage habits
  • Evaluate and improve the Water Roadmap

Applications should include a feasible work plan of activities that can be completed within the grant period. Funding may support some direct service programming but only if there are clearly demonstrated connections between programming and the long-term policy or systems change.

Grant recipients are required to participate in NB3 Foundation's Healthy Beverage Summits in 2026, 2027, and 2028.
