According to the FAQs, staff receives more inquiries than they are able to accommodate, and they may not be able to answer questions prior to the deadline. If the application moves forward for further review, team members will have more availability for discussions at that time.
The Dogwood Health Trust offers grants for coordinated, collaborative, community-led efforts in Western North Carolina working to improve community health, well-being, opportunity, and access.
Funds may be used to support both emerging and well-established collaborations across organizations, sectors, and geographic locations to plan, pilot, and scale solutions to complex community challenges.
Ideal applications will demonstrate how the collaborative will:
- Address a top priority for the region, based on community input and need
- Contribute to one or more of Dogwood's strategic priority areas including housing, education, economic opportunity, health, and wellness
- Serve people or communities who have experienced disinvestment or disconnection
- Bring together multiple strategically aligned partners
- Reflect a long-term, shared vision
- Respond to a ready environment
- Alreay have or commit to developing an explicit plan for how strategic decision-making power will be shared among partners, served communities, and those most affected
- Articulate what success might look like
- Incorporate plans for measuring progress, learning, and evaluating how people and communities will be better off because of this effort
A single organization, called the hub applicant, should apply on behalf of the collaborative. Hub applicants may be 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charities; government, quasi and non-governmental organizations; faith-based organizations; or K-12 schools, colleges and universities.
The Hub Applicant and collaborative members must serve the Qualla Boundary and/or 18 counties of Western North Carolina. Additional service area and eligibility information is provided in the FAQs, specifically the Who does Dogwood Fund? question.
Award ceiling: $500,000
Award floor: $50,000
Project period: 12-24 months

Submit a letter of intent through the online grants portal by May 18, 2026. Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal.
