The purpose of the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program is to establish and strengthen collaboration to support the efforts of community coalitions working to prevent and reduce substance use among youth ages 18 and younger.
DFC Program goals include:
- Establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, public and private nonprofit agencies, as well as federal, state, local, and tribal governments to support the efforts of community coalitions working to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth 18 years of age and younger
- Reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, reduce substance abuse among adults by addressing the factors in a community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse
Applicants are encouraged to focus on underserved populations and those at higher risk of certain forms of substance use and misuse, including:
- Youth from racial/ethnic minority groups
- LGBTQ+ youth
- Non-English speakers
- Youth with limited education attainment or reduced economic stability
- Youth with limited healthcare access or quality
- Tribal youth
- Youth in rural areas and other geographically underserved communities
Eligible applicants include
- State, county, city, township, territorial, and special district governments or their bona fide agents
- Federally recognized or state recognized Native American/Alaska Native tribal governments
- Nonprofits with or without 501(c)(3) status with the IRS
- Public, private, and state controlled institutions of higher education
- Independent school districts
- American Indian or Alaska Native Tribally designated organizations
- Non-government organizations
Award ceiling: $125,000 per year
Project period: 5 years

Estimated total program funding:
$62,500,000
Applicants in years 1-6 are required to have a 100% (1:1) match from non-federal sources. Projects in years 7-8 are required to match 125%, and years 9-10 match 150%.
