Nursing Homes: Improved Oversight Needed to Better Protect Residents from Abuse
Examines Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) data on nursing home complaints and incidents. Addresses the process for reporting and investigating abuse, deficiencies in the process and actions for enforcing it, as well as data on abuse type (physical, mental/verbal, sexual), perpetrator type (staff, resident, other), and severity over time. Table 2 includes rural/urban data on nursing home abuse deficiencies.
