Purpose

The Minnesota Long Term Care Nurse Loan Forgiveness Program offers loan repayment assistance to students in registered nurse (RN) and licensed practical nurse (LPN) programs or currently licensed RNs/LPNs who agree to practice in long-term care in Minnesota.

Eligibility

RN and LPN students, as well as currently licensed RNs and LPNs, are eligible to apply.

Participants are required to serve a minimum of two years with the option to extend two additional years in:

  • Nursing homes
  • Housing with services establishment
  • Assisted living facility
  • Home care provider
  • Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) for persons with developmental disabilities
  • Hospital if it owns/operates a licensed nursing home (must work at least 50% of the time in nursing home)

Preference is given to applicants closest to completing their training and those who can demonstrate diverse cultural competencies.

Up to $6,000 per year with a maximum of $24,000.

The minimum service obligation is two years with the option to extend two additional years.
