This program gives health professions students in Wisconsin an opportunity to become immersed in Wisconsin's diverse communities and cultures while they explore healthcare delivery and public health in medically underserved areas and learn from students in other disciplines.
This experience is now integrated into the AHEC Scholars program, and students outside of the program may join these sessions as room allows.
The program offers several multi-day sessions during winter, spring, and summer breaks throughout the year. Session topics are provided on the program website. Sessions are offered on different dates in either in-person, virtual, or hybrid formats.
There is a one-credit online course open to all students participating in this program administered through UW-Madison. Additional assignments will be given in addition to the regular AHEC Community Health Immersion programming to meet the 45-hour requirement for a credit.
All students enrolled in health professions programs throughout the state's public and private colleges and universities are welcome to apply.
In past years, students have come from physical therapy, occupational therapy, medicine, pharmacy, nursing, nutritional science, social work, global health, public health, and physician assistant programs.
The program fee is $50 per participant for virtual sessions and $200 per participant for in-person and hybrid sessions.
Additional information and links to the online applications are available on the program website.
