Purpose

The Bachelor of Science Nursing Scholarship Program will award scholarships for California residents who are enrolled in a bachelor of science in nursing program in exchange for working in a Medically Underserved Area of California upon graduation.

Eligibility

Applicants currently accepted or enrolled in a bachelor degree nursing program leading to licensure as a registered nurse are eligible.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Begin class or training program by October 1, 2026
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of six semester units, or its equivalent, until program completion
  • Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher for most recent academic performance or equivalent
  • Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher until program completion
  • Must graduate after March 31, 2027
  • Not have any other existing service obligations with other entities
  • Not be in breach of any other HCAI service obligation
  • Commit to a one year service obligation providing at least 32 hours per week of direct patient care in an underserved area or qualifying facility starting within 6 months of graduation
  • Be a California resident

  • Registered Nursing Shortage Area (RNSA)
  • Critical Access Hospital
  • Rural Health Clinic
  • Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)/FQHC Look-Alike
  • Skilled nursing facility
  • Health Professional Shortage Area – Mental Health (HPSA-MH)
  • State-operated health facility
  • Health Professional Shortage Area – Primary Care (HPSA-PC)
  • Substance use facility
  • Medically Underserved Area (MUA)
  • Veteran's facility
  • Native American Health Center

Up to $10,000 in return for 1 year of service.

A total of approximately $195,000 is available.
