Nebraska Loan Repayment Program for Rural Health Professionals
Nebraska Loan Repayment Program for Rural Health Professionals offers loan repayment assistance to certain healthcare professionals who agree to practice for a minimum of 3 years in a state-designated shortage area of Nebraska.
To be eligible, students must be Nebraska residents, have a non-provisional license, and not be in residency training. Eligible professions include:
- Nurse practitioners
- Physician assistants
- Dentists (general, pediatric, or oral surgery)
- Licensed mental health practitioners
- Occupational therapists
- Physical therapists
Physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants practice specialties include family practice, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, general surgery, and psychiatry.
Nurse practitioners, physician assistants, master's level mental health professionals, pharmacists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists may receive up to $30,000 per year.
Physicians, dentists, and clinical psychologists may receive up to $60,000 per year.
The local entity must agree to provide a 50% match per year.
The actual amount awarded will depend on the health practitioner's student loans, the local entity's local match, and the availability of state funds.
