Purpose

Nebraska Loan Repayment Program for Rural Health Professionals offers loan repayment assistance to certain healthcare professionals who agree to practice between 2-4 years in a state-designated shortage area of Nebraska.

Loan repayment assistance is offered through 2 programs:

  • Nebraska State Loan Repayment Program
  • NHSC Nebraska State Loan Repayment Program
Eligibility

To be eligible students must have be fully licensed by the start date of the loan repayment contract.

Eligible specialties, areas, and facilities may be found on the program website.

Geographic coverage
Nebraska
Amount of funding

$180,000 - $200,000 for doctors and dentists

  • Nebraska State Loan Repayment Program: $60,000 per year for 3 years
  • NHSC Nebraska State Loan Repayment Program: $50,000 per year for 2 to 4 years

$90,000 - $100,000 for other professions

  • Nebraska State Loan Repayment Program: $30,000 per year for 3 years
  • NHSC Nebraska State Loan Repayment Program: $25,000 per year for 2 to 4 years

The local entity must agree to provide a 50% match per year. The actual amount awarded will depend on the health practitioner's student loans, the local entity's local match, and the availability of state funds.
