The Utah Conrad State 30 J-1 Visa Waiver Program offers a J-1 Visa waiver to foreign physicians who commit to serving for 3 years in a federally designated Primary Care Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) in Utah, waiving the foreign medical residency requirement and allowing them to remain in the United States. The program is intended to provide physician services in areas that typically have difficulty attracting and retaining physicians.
Priority is given to physicians who practice in primary care, including family practice, obstetrics, gynecology, internal medicine, pediatrics, and psychiatry.
Utah uses Heath Professional Shortage Area (HPSAs) designations to consider employment sites eligible for J-1 visa waiver placements. 20 slots are available for those working in a facility located in a HPSA. 10 slots are available for physicians practicing in a non-HPSA area who work with underserved populations.
This is an incentive program that offers foreign physicians a visa waiver, allowing them to work in the U.S.
Links to additional guidance and a submission checklist are available on the program website.
