Purpose

The Georgia Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Loan Repayment Program provides loan repayment assistance for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses who agree to practice full-time in a rural community in Georgia for a period of 1-4 years.

The practice time requirement can be split between two or more counties as long as none of the practice location counties exceeds a population limit of 50,000.

The APRN may be employed by a hospital, group medical practice, community health center, or other healthcare organization. There is no requirement that the practice be a nonprofit organization; however, the practice must participate in the Medicaid program, must agree to accept new patients insured by Medicaid, and actively treat Medicaid patients.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a citizen, legal resident, or foreign national of the United States
  • Have satisfied all requirements for unrestricted APRN licensure by the Georgia Board of Nursing
  • Be a graduate of an accredited institution of nursing education
  • Work in a qualifying practice that actively treats Medicaid patients
