Purpose

The California County Medical Services Program (CMSP) Loan Repayment Program assists with the repayment of qualified educational loans for primary care professionals who provide healthcare services at an approved site located in a County Medical Services Program (CMSP) area in California.

Participants must commit to a 2-year service obligation at an approved site.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are U.S. citizens with a valid and unrestricted license to practice in California with no existing service commitment or obligation to another entity.

Professions include:

  • Physicians (MD/DO)
    • Family medicine
    • General internal medicine
    • General psychiatrist
    • Obstetrics/gynecology
  • Dentists (DMD/DDS)
  • Primary care nurse practitioner (NP)
  • Primary care physician assistant (PA)

Amount of funding

Full-time award: Up to $50,000 for a 2-year service commitment

Half-time award: Up to $25,000 for a 2-year service commitment

Awards may be extended for at least 3 years after the initial service obligation.
