The Maine Health Professions Loan Program is a need-based, competitive loan for Maine students pursuing postgraduate medical, dental, and veterinary education.

Applicants must be Maine residents who have lived in Maine for a minimum of 1 year prior to matriculation into graduate school. Applicants must be admitted to a program of allopathic, osteopathic, veterinary medicine, or dentistry at an accredited institution.

Priority is given to students who have the greatest financial need. Allopathic or osteopathic medical students not participating in the Doctors for Maine's Future Scholarship Program are given priority over dental and veterinary students.

Amount of funding
  • Up to $25,000 annually, or $100,000 total over a maximum four-year period
  • Up to $10,000 annually, or $40,000 total over a maximum four-year period for students benefitting from the Doctors for Maine's Future Scholarship Program

This is a need-based loan. The interest rate will be determined by employment status and location after graduation. Maximum interest rate is 8%.
