Purpose

The Rural Health Careers Camp is an educational program for Illinois students interested in rural healthcare fields.

The 2026 Rural Health Careers Camp is scheduled to be held at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL from June 29, 2026 - July 1, 2026.

Campers will:

  • Participate in at least 15 activities related to healthcare professions
  • Learn directly from current healthcare providers
  • Meet camp counselors who are current health professions students
  • Live like a college student on a university campus
  • Meet other students with similar interests
Eligibility

Eligibility requirements:

  • Live and attend high school in a rural community in Illinois with a population of 25,000 or less
  • Will be a rising freshman, sophomore, or junior in high school at the time of camp

Preference goes to underclassmen and incoming freshman students from the following counties:

  • Boone
  • Bureau
  • Carroll
  • DeKalb
  • Henderson
  • Henry
  • Jo Daviess
  • Knox
  • LaSalle
  • Lee
  • Mercer
  • Ogle
  • Putnam
  • Rock Island
  • Stark
  • Stephenson
  • Warren
  • Whiteside
  • Winnebago
