Purpose

The Utah Office of Primary Care and Rural Health provides educational loan repayment assistance for physicians who contract to work in a rural hospital in Utah for a minimum of 2 years.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are licensed physicians in the state of Utah who agree to work in an approved rural hospital for at least 2 years. Eligible providers include:

  • Primary care
  • Obstetrics and gynecology
  • General surgeons
  • Orthopedic surgeons
  • Pediatrics
  • Internal medicine

Amount of funding

Up to $40,000 a year for up to 2 years

The employer is required to provide a 1:1 match.

If the employer agrees, recipients may also be eligible for a one year extension. The total possible award amount for this program is up to $120,000.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis each fiscal year. Applications are reviewed twice a year.
