Michigan National Rural Health Day Essay Contest

The Literacy Legacy Fund of Michigan, Michigan Center for Rural Health, and the Northern Michigan University Center for Rural Health partner to offer an essay contest for high school seniors who live and attend school in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, who are college/university bound the following fall semester, and intend to pursue healthcare careers.
Essay prompt: Imagine an ideal future in which type 2 diabetes is no longer a significant health concern for rural communities in Michigan. What would need to change to make this vision a reality? Describe three specific changes or initiatives that you believe would have the greatest impact. These may include, but are not limited to, changes related to health policy, access to healthcare, community resources, education, or individual health behaviors.
Eligible participants are high school seniors who live and attend school in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, who are college/university bound the following fall semester, and intend to pursue healthcare careers.
Award amounts:
- First place - $500
- Second place - $250
- Third place - $100
