Purpose

This program provides funding to carry out planning activities to help tribes and tribal organizations determine if developing a public health program for their community is practicable. Funds will be used to assist with establishing goals and performance measures and assessing current management capacity to support a public health program that will implement essential public health services for American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

Required activities include:

  • Assess community-specific public health needs
  • Conduct an assessment to identify current essential public health services activities and/or priorities
  • Identify gaps in essential public health services functions currently available within supported communities
  • Quantify costs for establishing priority essential public health services functions
  • Assess feasibility of establishing priority essential public health services functions
Eligibility

Federally recognized tribes, tribal organizations, and urban Indian organizations are eligible to apply.
