Purpose

The Greater Minnesota Tribal Transit Vehicle Grant program provides funds to purchase a transit vehicle to enhance tribal transit programs in Minnesota. The goal of this funding is to expand tribal public transportation fleets or replace fleet vehicles that have passed their useful life and/or are not in a state of good repair.

Eligible vehicles include vans, minivans, and class 300, 400, and 500 size buses. Programs may purchase a new vehicle or replace a vehicle currently funded under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funds. Vehicles that are proposed to be equipped with a lift assist compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) will receive additional points.

Eligible applicants are tribal governments in Minnesota that receive operating funds from the Federal Transit Administration.

Amount of funding

Grant awards will be up to $187,500 per project, with each vehicle representing one project. The tribal agency is responsible for 20% of the project cost plus any costs above $187,500. Proposals with tribal funding above 20% will receive a higher score.
