Purpose

The Mālama Honua Home Improvement/Renovation Program Grant offers funding to support nonprofit partners to administer health and safety–focused home improvement programs for income-qualified Native Hawaiian homeowners who are ineligible for traditional financing. Priority will be given to projects that serve kupuna, individuals who are disabled, and rural households.

Funds should be used for urgent health and safety related repairs that address documented hazards or threats to habitability.

Nonprofit organizations serving Native Hawaiian homeowners are eligible to apply.

Amount of funding

There is $500,000 total funding available, with maximum grant awards in the amount of $250,000.

Funding caps per project: Up to $10,000 for minor/safety repairs and up to $20,000 for critical systems repairs for income-qualified Native Hawaiian homeowners (≤80% area median income).

Submit a letter of interest online by July 29, 2026. Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal, with a deadline of August 15, 2026.
