Purpose

The Tennessee Department of Health offers loan repayment for ophthalmologists (medical and surgical eye care specialists) and optometrists (Doctor of Optometry) who commit to at least 2 years of service in one of Tennessee's eligible rural counties.

The program is designed to help expand access to eye care by recruiting and retaining eye care professionals in eligible rural counties and federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) in the state.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are graduates from an accredited Tennessee medical school or school of optometry that are licensed to practice in Tennessee.
