Purpose

This opportunity offers funding for early-career researchers to learn to use the American Heart Association Get With the Guidelines (GWTG) clinical registry data to address current gaps in the implementation of care.

Examples of research questions include but are not limited to:

  • Determine if differences in the quality of inpatient care for heart failure, coronary artery disease (CAD), atrial fibrillation, or stroke exist based on sex, insurance status, or other factors
  • Determine if sex differences exist in a specific guideline-directed medical therapy
  • Identify trends in a specific practice or specific prescription patterns
  • Determine if differences exist among care at rural versus urban hospitals
Eligibility

Eligible applicants are early-career researchers.

American Heart Association research awards are limited to U.S.-based nonprofit institutions, including medical, osteopathic, and dental schools, veterinary schools, schools of public health, pharmacy schools, nursing schools, universities and colleges, public and voluntary hospitals, and others that can demonstrate the ability to conduct the proposed research.

Applicants must be proficient in R or Python or include a researcher with this experience in the application.

Applicants must be professional members at the time of application.
