The North Carolina Forgivable Education Loans for Service program (FELS) offers financial assistance for qualified students who are committed to working in critical employment shortage professions in North Carolina.
Recipients who graduate or complete the approved education program and secure a qualifying position may apply to repay the loan obligation through loan forgiveness. NCSEAA may forgive one academic year of funding for each year of full-time qualified employment and one academic year of funding for two years of part-time employment. A recipient must complete loan forgiveness within 10 years of graduation, excluding periods of approved deferments.
Eligible applicants are individuals in North Carolina who complete an approved education program.
One academic year of loans will be forgiven for each year of full-time qualifying employment.
Up to $7,000 for certificate/licensure, associate, and bachelor degrees.
Up to $14,000 for master and doctoral degrees.
Application information will be provided on the program website when applications are being accepted.
Applications open in January and close in March of each year.
