Older Adult Mental Health in Rural New York

The National Council on Aging (NCOA) is offering funding, tools, training, and support for community-based organizations to provide mental health support to older adults in rural New York state. The program is designed to equip older adults with the knowledge and skills needed to address their mental well-being, overcome mental health stigma, and access care.
Selected organizations will identify and support 2 staff members to implement the Get Empowered: Embrace Your Mental Well-Being program. Staff will be required to:
- Complete a pre-program survey and 3-month follow-up survey
- Participate in facilitator training (approximately 5-6 hours of asynchronous and synchronous training)
- Implement the program consisting of three sessions (60-90 minutes each) at least two times between November 2026 and October 2027; the program can be offered in-person or online in English or Spanish
- Engage at least 40 unduplicated participants in the program
- Support the participant evaluation process
- Collect and provide at least two client testimonials and photos that highlight the program impact
Eligible applicants are community-based organizations that:
- Serve older adults in rural New York state
- Are interested in developing or enhancing behavioral health programming
- Have access to a facility where workshops can be hosted
Participants will receive:
- $5,000 honorarium
- Access to all materials needed to host the program
- NCOA-led training and technical support
