Purpose

Supporting Healthcare Access through Loan Repayment - I (SHARP-I) offers loan repayment assistance to certain healthcare professionals in exchange for agreeing to practice for a minimum of 2 years in a Health Professional Shortage Area of Alaska.

Eligibility

The following healthcare professionals are eligible to apply:

  • Primary care physician (MD or DO), including psychiatrist
  • Pharmacist
  • Dentist (DDS or DMD)
  • Nurse practitioner
  • Physician assistant
  • Registered nurse
  • Certified nurse midwife
  • Psychologist (Ph.D. or PsyD)
  • Clinical social worker (LCSW)
  • Psychiatric nurse specialist (PNS)
  • Licensed professional counselor (LPC)
  • Marriage and family therapist (MFT)
  • Registered clinical dental hygienist
Geographic coverage
Alaska
Amount of funding

Up to $35,000 per year is offered to physicians, dentists, pharmacists, and psychiatrists, with up to $47,000 per year for very hard to fill positions. All other professions are eligible for up to $20,000 per year, with up to $27,000 per year for very hard to fill positions
