Purpose

This opportunity offers loan repayment assistance to certain healthcare professionals in exchange for agreeing to practice for a minimum of 2 years in a Health Professional Shortage Area of Alaska.

Eligibility

The following healthcare professionals are eligible to apply:

Primary care disciplines (participants must practice in a Primary Care HPSA):

  • Physician (MD or DO) in family medicine, geriatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, osteopathic general medicine, or pediatrics
  • Nurse practitioner in adult, family, pediatrics, geriatrics, or women's health
  • Physician assistant in adult, family, pediatrics, geriatrics, or women's health
  • Certified nurse midwife
  • Registered nurse
  • Pharmacist
  • Registered dietitian

Dental health disciplines (participants must practice in a Dental Health HPSA):

  • Dentist in general or pediatric dentistry
  • Registered dental hygienist
  • Dental health aide therapist

Behavioral health disciplines (participants must practice in a Mental Health HPSA):

  • Physician (MD or DO) in psychiatry
  • Nurse practitioner in psychiatry/mental health
  • Physician assistant in psychiatry/mental health
  • Health service psychologist in clinical or counseling psychology
  • Clinical social worker (LCSW)
  • Psychiatric nurse specialist (PNS)
  • Licensed professional counselor (LPC)
  • Marriage and family therapist (MFT)

Amount of funding

Award amounts are determined based on the availability of funds, the participant's discipline, service level, and outstanding qualifying educational loans. Award amount will not exceed $50,000.
