The National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program awards scholarships to students who are pursuing one of the following degrees with a primary care specialty:
- Medicine (MD or DO)
- Dentistry (DDS or DMD)
- Nurse Practitioner
- Certified Nurse Midwife
- Physician Assistant/Physician Associate
Scholarship recipients must commit to providing primary care health services at an approved site in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA). Scholars must serve a 2-year minimum service commitment for a minimum of one year of support, and scholars can receive a maximum of 4 years of scholarship support.
Students pursuing eligible disciplines must also be:
- U.S. citizens or nationals
- Full-time students at accredited schools beginning on or before September 30, 2026
- Be eligible for federal employment and free from any other service obligation
The scholarship covers:
- Tuition and eligible fees
- A monthly stipend for living expenses
- An annual payment to cover other reasonable educational costs
