Purpose

The National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program awards scholarships to students who are pursuing one of the following degrees with a primary care specialty:

  • Medicine (MD or DO)
  • Dentistry (DDS or DMD)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse Midwife
  • Physician Assistant/Physician Associate

Scholarship recipients must commit to providing primary care health services at an approved site in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA). Scholars must serve a 2-year minimum service commitment for a minimum of one year of support, and scholars can receive a maximum of 4 years of scholarship support.

Eligibility

Students pursuing eligible disciplines must also be:

  • U.S. citizens or nationals
  • Full-time students at accredited schools beginning on or before September 30, 2026
  • Be eligible for federal employment and free from any other service obligation

The scholarship covers:

  • Tuition and eligible fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual payment to cover other reasonable educational costs
