Purpose

The Nursing Education Scholarship Program aims to increase the supply of nurses in Illinois. Scholarships are offered to Illinois residents pursuing nursing education who demonstrate the greatest financial need.

The program is open to qualified individuals pursuing an associate's degree in nursing, a hospital-based diploma in nursing, a baccalaureate degree in nursing, a graduate degree in nursing, or a certificate in practical nursing.

Participants must agree to work in Illinois upon graduation for a period equivalent to the educational time supported by the scholarship.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • A resident of Illinois for at least 1 year prior to application
  • A U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen or meet the "undocumented student" criteria of the RISE Act
  • Enrolled in or accepted for admission to an approved nursing program in Illinois
  • Able to demonstrate financial need

Amounts vary based on the type of education pursued. The scholarship pays for coursework within the nursing curriculum, but does not pay for pre-requisite coursework.

Some full-time students may be eligible to receive stipends.
