Purpose

The Dental Faculty Loan Repayment Program provides funds to dental and dental hygiene training programs to establish loan repayment programs for dental and dental hygiene faculty in order to increase the number of faculty in the workforce, specifically in the areas of general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, public health dentistry, and dental hygiene. Additional preference will be given to applicants providing loan repayment to pediatric dentistry faculty supervising dental students or residents and providing clinical services in dental clinics located in dental schools, hospitals, and community-based affiliated sites.

Awardees must create a selection committee to choose the individual loan repayment recipients, and loan recipients must agree to work full-time. The selection committee is encouraged to consider the rural or disadvantaged background of loan recipients in the scoring process. The institution's loan repayment program will pay an amount equal to 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30% of loan debt for each successive year of service up to 5 years.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include programs of general, pediatric, or public health dentistry in public or private nonprofit dental or dental hygiene schools, or approved residency or advanced education programs in the practice of general, pediatric, or public health dentistry.
