Purpose

The Health Care Professionals Workforce Enhancement Program (SHARP-3) offers direct incentive payments or loan repayment assistance to a wide range of healthcare professionals in exchange for agreeing to practice for a minimum of 3 years in a state-designated healthcare services shortage area of Alaska.

Eligibility

The following healthcare professionals are eligible to apply.

Alaska Tier-1 healthcare professionals:

  • Physician
  • Dentist
  • Pharmacist
  • Doctor of nursing practice
  • Clinical or counseling psychologist

Alaska Tier-2 healthcare professionals:

  • Advanced practice registered nurse
  • Physician assistant
  • Dental hygienist
  • Registered nurse
  • Clinical social worker
  • Physical therapist
  • Board certified behavior analyst
  • Marriage and family therapist
  • Professional counselor

Alaska Tier-3 healthcare professionals:

  • Other practitioners not designated as either Tier-1 or Tier-2 healthcare professionals

Amount of funding

Maximum award amounts for both direct incentive payments and loan repayment assistance are as follows:

Tier 1:

  • Up to $47,250 (full time)/$23,625 (half time), for very hard-to-fill positions
  • Up to $35,000 (full time)/$17,500 (half time), for regular-fill positions

Tier 2:

  • Up to $27,000 (full time)/$13,500 (half time), for very hard-to-fill positions
  • Up to $20,000 (full time)/$10,000 (half time), for regular-fill positions

Tier 3:

  • Up to $20,250 (full time)/$10,125 (half time), for very hard-to-fill positions
  • Up to $15,000 (full time)/$7,500 (half time), for regular-fill positions

The healthcare practice site must agree to provide a portion of the benefit and an administrative fee.
