Clinician Champions for AI Adoption

Successful AI adoption must begin with early and ongoing clinician involvement. Rural healthcare organizations have found that it is helpful to identify a clinician champion. A clinician champion is usually a trusted and respected provider who can help support AI adoption by building buy-in and fostering trust from other clinicians and staff.

This clinician is the bridge between the clinical and technical needs, so that the AI training, implementation, and workflow align with clinical realities and priorities, and improve efficiency and patient care.

AI solutions for rural health should also be co-designed with input from local healthcare providers. Collaboration ensures that any AI tool that is implemented addresses real-world challenges, such as connectivity issues, staffing shortages, and community context. Regular meetings between clinicians can help AI implementers adapt the AI tool to local needs. This approach fosters ownership and increases the likelihood of successful AI adoption.
