Substance Use and Misuse in Rural Areas – Funding & Opportunities

Services Program for Residential Treatment for Pregnant and Postpartum Women (PPW-R)
Funding to provide comprehensive services for pregnant and postpartum women with substance use disorders (SUD) across the continuum of residential settings that support treatment and sustain recovery. Treatment and recovery support services should be provided to pregnant and postpartum women, who may reside with their minor children while in treatment. Services are expected to be available to persons who are uninsured, underinsured, and persons in rural and highly impacted communities.

Tribal Opioid Response Grants
Grants to address the overdose crisis in Tribal communities by increasing access to FDA-approved medications for the treatment of opioid use disorder (MOUD), and supporting the continuum of prevention, treatment, and recovery support services for opioid use disorder (OUD) and co-occurring substance use disorders, and stimulant misuse and use disorders, including those involving cocaine and methamphetamine.

Native Collective Research Effort to Enhance Wellness (N CREW) Program: Addressing Overdose, Substance Use, Mental Health, and Pain
Funding for community-led research to enhance culturally grounded, strengths-based, effective, and sustainable interventions addressing overdose, substance use, mental health, and pain in Native communities.

BNSF Railway Foundation Grants
Grants to organizations that operate near a BNSF railway line. Priority areas include health and human service organizations, programs that address chemical dependency treatment and prevention, spouse and child abuse, women's and children's aid, transitional shelters, hospitals, medical programs, and youth development programs.

Contingency Management Professional Certificate
An online training on the efficacy and dissemination of contingency management as a model for treatment of stimulant, tobacco, and other substance use disorders.

Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) Training and Mentoring
Training to provide medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) for clinicians in high-need communities. Clinicians who complete the training may be priority applicants for some NHSC loan repayment programs.

SAMHSA Program to Advance Recovery Knowledge Recovery Resource Center
Training and technical assistance to assist states, Tribes, territories, and communities to expand the delivery of recovery support services.

Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery Loan Repayment Program (STAR LRP) Site Activation
Apply to be an approved Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment and Recovery Loan Repayment Program site to receive assistance with recruitment and retention of qualified SUD clinicians and paraprofessionals.

Technical Assistance - University of Rochester Medicine Recovery Center of Excellence
Technical assistance for rural communities to help with initiatives that address substance use disorder.

Rural Health and Safety Education Competitive Grants Program Inactive
Funding for community-based outreach education and extension programs at land-grant colleges and universities that provide individuals and families based in rural areas with education and information on health, wellness, and substance use prevention.
