Understanding the Intersection of Social Inequities to Optimize Health and Reduce Health Disparities: The Axes Initiative (R01 Clinical Trial Optional)
Funding for research to examine the pathways through which social determinants of health (SDOH), and related biological, psychological, and behavioral factors impact health and health disparities. The primary populations of focus are those that experience health disparities in the U.S., including racial and ethnic minority populations, people with lower socioeconomic status, underserved rural populations, sexual and gender minority populations, and people with disabilities.

Rural Health Network Development Planning Program
Grants to promote the planning and development of integrated rural healthcare networks in order to achieve efficiencies; expand access to, coordinate, and improve the quality of essential healthcare services; and strengthen the rural healthcare system as a whole.

Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS)
Awards funding to health professions schools to increase diversity in the health professions workforce by providing scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Priority is given to institutions that seek to place graduates in medically underserved communities.

Tribal Self-Governance Program Negotiation Cooperative Agreement
Cooperative agreements that provide negotiation resources to tribes interested in participating in the Tribal Self-Governance Program (TSGP), which gives tribes the authority to manage and tailor healthcare programs in a manner that best fits the needs of their communities.

Cooperative agreements that provide planning resources to tribes interested in participating in the Tribal Self-Governance Program (TSGP), which gives tribes the authority to manage and tailor healthcare programs in a manner that best fits the needs of their communities.

Strategic Prevention Framework - Partnerships for Success for Communities, Local Governments, Universities, Colleges, and Tribes/Tribal Organizations
Funding to use the SAMHSA Strategic Prevention Framework to expand and strengthen the capacity of local community prevention providers to implement evidence-based prevention programs.

Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP)
Funding for accredited schools of nursing to establish and/or operate a student loan fund. Grantees will loan money to students, and up to 85% of each loan may be forgiven upon completion of up to 4 years of full-time employment as a faculty member in an accredited school of nursing.

Maternal and Child Health Secondary Data Analysis Research (MCH SDAR)
Funding to support applied research through analysis of existing databases and/or administrative records to improve the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of healthcare services and health outcomes for underserved maternal and child health populations. Underserved populations include Indigenous and Native American persons, people in rural areas, persons otherwise adversely affected by persistent poverty or inequality, among others.

Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program
Grants to expand the number of fellows at accredited Addiction Medicine Fellowship and Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship programs trained as addiction medicine specialists who work in underserved, community-based settings that integrate primary care with mental health disorders and substance use disorder prevention and treatment services.

Indian Health Service Health Professions Scholarship Program
Scholarships for American Indian and Alaska Native undergraduate- and graduate-level students enrolled in specific health professions degree programs.
