EatMoveGrow

  • Project Title: EatMoveGrow
  • Grant Period: 2016-2019
  • Program Representative Interviewed: Donna Newton, Executive Director
  • Location: Oakdale, Louisiana
  • Program Overview: EatMoveGrow (EMG) is funded by a HRSA Delta States Rural Development Network Grant. This program uses the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model to teach students healthy habits and to build stronger health environments at low-resource elementary schools in rural Louisiana. The EMG team serves 40 elementary schools and 20 daycares/Head Start programs in 21 parishes. Their health educators use a wide and deep approach to provide a spectrum of services unique to each school including health education, nutrition support, activity-boosting enhancements, and grant writing technical assistance.

While serving more than 15,000 children from childcare centers through third grade, EMG demonstrated measurable improvements in the implementation of policy change, expanding student knowledge, and increasing student activity during the school day.
