  • Program Overview: Taylor County has utilized the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension Services to provide Food Smart Families, a program which offers youth and family courses on healthy eating, healthy cooking, nutrition education, as well as positive health behaviors. The courses provide hands-on experiences that focus on creating food secure homes and long-term healthy habits. The courses are offered to youth and their families through summer camps, academic curricula, and community centers by the Extension Services program coordinators assisted by volunteers and sponsors. The program is modeled on the 4-H Youth Development Program which allows for empowerment starting at an early age.
