People living with HIV need to continue antiretroviral therapy as prescribed in order to ensure proper disease
adherence is a major determinant of disease progression and health outcomes. However, adherence may be
difficult for some people because of challenging life circumstances, including unstable housing or employment,
substance use, mental health issues, or a lack of transportation.
