Models to Reduce Morbidity and Mortality Related to Substance Use

Some models focus on reducing morbidity and mortality related to substance use. These approaches aim to prevent overdoses, improve overdose responses, reduce disease transmission, and mitigate the risk of other serious outcomes by connecting people to care.

Programs that distribute and educate about Opioid Overdose Reversal Medications (OORMs) and implementation of crisis response systems in rural areas can reverse the effects of overdoses and reduce substance use related fatalities. This section discusses these two models for reducing morbidity and mortality related to substance use.
