Module 5: Evaluation Considerations for Substance Use Disorder Programs

Program evaluation is an important tool for demonstrating the efficiency and effectiveness of substance use disorder (SUD) prevention, treatment, and recovery programs. Evaluations assess what works well and what needs improvement. Data gathered through evaluation may also be used to inform policy changes, such as those for telehealth utilization or drug treatment for SUD. Since resources for SUD programs are often scarce in rural communities, evaluation is critical for demonstrating return on investment and justifying additional funding.

For a detailed overview of program evaluation, see Evaluating Rural Programs in the Rural Community Health Toolkit.

This module presents specific guidance on evaluation considerations for SUD programs.
